Categories
There are four categories in which you can enter.
"A" Amateur
(Non-Professional) Where the maker has received no financial sponsorship, or been commissioned by any company or organisation for any financial remuneration whatsoever, and produced without professional assistance.
"B" Student
Where the maker is a Student or Young Person in full time education up to an age limit of 25 but with only limited professional assistance. IF MORE THAN LIMITED PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE INVOLVED ENTER IN CLASS "C" . EXACTLY HOW MUCH ASSISTANCE MUST BE SPECIFIED.
"C" Open
Applicable to any entrant ineligible in "A" "B" or “D” and including all Professionals.
"D" Film/Video Club
An integrated club production by at least three persons, not solely the work of one member.
1. Subjects:
Entries may be on any subject. Pornography or anything of an explicit or sexual nature is excluded. The organisers reserve the right to exclude any entry deemed to contain scenes of violence for its own sake, explicit sex, excessive bad language or gratuitous racism. This applies to all titling.
2. Entry Requirements:
Note: No paper labels on DVDs.
Videos must be on standard definition tape cassettes in Full Size DV, Mini DV,
DVD-R formats in the PAL system.
Minidv or DVD-R only, in the NTSC system.
Only one movie per cassette / disc which must have a minimum 15 seconds black leader. Cassette or disc clearly labelled with title and name of entrant. All awards leaders / trailers must be removed. [Cine film transferred to a digital video format is acceptable.]
Entries must have been made in the last 5 years.
Inclusion / use of borrowed footage up to a maximum of 10% of the total running time is permitted if essential to the story line. See rule 9 on copyright.
SOUND: Stereo tracks and HI-FI only.
3. Entry Forms:
There is no restriction on the number of entries but each must include a separate, completed Entry Form, signed and dated, for every film. Also entry fees are per film.
Entry forms and entries together with fees must be mailed pre-paid to the address below and on the entry form to arrive no later than the closing date, 1st February 2010. All entries will be acknowledged as soon as possible after receipt.

4. Entry Fees:
Amateurs £10. Students / Young People £5. Professionals £15. Clubs £10.
To satisfy several requests from overseas we can now accept entry fee payment via PayPal. PLEASE NOTE that standard entry fees paid via PayPal will be plus £1 per entry. I.E. "A" Amateurs £11, "B" Students £6, "C" Open/Professionals £16, "D" Clubs £11.
Overseas payments may also be made by Bankers Draft as long as it is in GBR (Sterling). We regret that we can no longer accept currency notes or payment in other currencies. For all entry fees we can accept payment by cheque providing they are from a UK based bank account with the cheque guarantee number written on the back of the cheque.
Entry Fees, methods of payment, return postage are as detailed in the competition rules. Entries will only be returned after the event if postage is pre-paid. Cheques to be made payable to Morecambe Bay Movie Makers. These fees include postage of any prizes or diplomas.

These awards are open only to Category "A" Amateur, Category "B" Students and Category “D” Film/Video Club.
BEST VIDEO OVERALL in the competition wins an “Eric” trophy. This award is open to all categories.”Eric” trophies are named after Morecambe’s famous comedian, Eric Morecambe. When the iconic statue was unveiled on the seafront the sculptor, Graham Ibbeson, presented a miniature to H M The Queen. Our prizes are exact copies as presented to Her Majesty, and as such, are very special.

6.Judging:
Preliminary: All entries will be screened in full and judged by individual competent judges appointed by the Competition Committee.
Final Judging will be by different selected individual judges invited and appointed by the Competition Committee.
All judges throughout will use a specific formula that takes into account all aspects of motion picture making. If in the opinion of the Judges no entries meet a required standard in a particular category they reserve the right not to make an award. All short listed films will be shown at the final Winners Award Ceremony.
7. Appraisals:
Judges appraisals and critiques will be sent to all entrants after the Competition is concluded together with a catalogue of all entries and winners.
Judges decisions are final; no correspondence will be entered into.
ENTRIES IN EACH CATEGORY WILL BE JUDGED WITHIN ITS CATEGORY, LIKE WITH LIKE SUBJECTS.
8. Running Times:
(Important - these must be appropriately stated on the entry form)
Categories "A" , "B" and “D” Maximum 15 minutes, including titles. Category "C" Maximum 20 minutes including titles.
9. Copyright Clearance:
ALL VISUALS AND SOUND RECORDED MUST BE THE ABSOLUTE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ENTRANT AND THE SIGNATORY ON THE ENTRY FORM.
10. Packaging:
Each Cassette / Disc must be clearly labelled with the Title and the full Name and Address of the Entrant. All packaging must be re-useable for return mailing. Entrants from Europe and Abroad must use the Customs Label applicable in their country. (In the unlikely event but should it apply, entrants must pay any customs clearance duty).
11. Security:
The Competition Committee will ensure reasonable care of all entries whilst in their possession but will not be responsible for any loss or damage how so ever caused.
12. Type Of Movie: Synopsis: Photographs: Biography: Stills Of Film Scenes:
Each video must be clearly marked as to which category and subject it is being entered. Within each Category and with reference to type specified, the Competition Committee will classify entries "Like with Like" subject for Judging. Also, each entry should include the following:
- A short synopsis in English on plain paper.
- Photographs and a biography of the maker(s).
- PLEASE include action stills of film scenes etc. These are very much appreciated for Advance Publicity Purposes
The interpretation of these Rules by the Competition Committee is final; correspondence on this aspect will not be accepted.
