The 'Erics'
Morecambe Bay International Video Competition
To celebrate the fortieth anniversary of Morecambe Bay Movie Makers a prestigious internet based international video competition, “THE ERICS”, has been inaugurated. The entry closing date is 1st February 2010 and the Winners Award Ceremony will be held at The Dukes Theatre, Lancaster on Saturday 10th April 2010.
This competition has also been established to honour the memory of Eric Morecambe, to encourage young people to become interested in the art of videography and to stimulate film and video clubs around Great Britain. Also to draw attention to this, one of the most beautiful areas of England, as well as acknowledging forty years of film and video making by members of one of the most active video clubs in the UK, Morecambe Bay Movie Makers.
General Information
Eric Morecambe, one half of Britain’s most famous comedy duo, Morecambe and Wise, was born in the seaside town of Morecambe on the shores of Morecambe Bay. The town honoured Eric Morecambe by erecting an iconic Graham Ibbeson statue on the sea front, with the magnificent hills and mountains of the Lake District and the wide expanse of Morecambe Bay providing a wonderful backdrop. Every hour of the day visitors and locals alike pose by this statue to have their photographs taken by their families or friends.
Entries are invited world wide from individuals, amateurs or professionals, students and video clubs from Great Britain providing they conform to the rules of the competition. Each entry will be viewed by judges appropriate to the category and will receive an individual critique of their production. All entrants will receive two free tickets to attend the Award Ceremony and finalists will also receive individual trophies. For those who come first there will also be cash prizes and for the winners of the Funniest Video, the Best Film About Morecambe Bay and the Best Overall Video there will be special prizes in the form of unique, gold plated sculptures of the Eric Morecambe statue as presented to HM the Queen on the unveiling of the original statue. Very unique and prestigious prizes indeed.
It is hoped that, if this first year is successful, it can be expanded into a weekend long festival. Historic Lancaster and the burgeoning seaside resort of Morecambe are ideal places in which to spend a holiday with easy access to the Lake District, Lune Valley and Yorkshire Dales. Should entrants wish to spend the weekend here then a bed booking service is readily available through the award winning Visitor Information Centres (booking hotline number is 01524 582393).
